Was Tom Robinsons Trial Fair Essay Example

Was Tom Robinsons Trial Fair Essay In the book To Kill a Mockingbird By Harper Lee African American Tom Robinson in 1930s society was accused or raping Mayella Ewell. This trial was a complete and utter failure, the jury was full of prejudice people. Only one person testified that he saw the act and that was by unreliable Bob Ewell Mayellas father and proof that Tom was innocent yet he was still found guilty. â€Å"His left arm was fully 12 inches shorter than his right, and hung dead at his side. It ended in a small shriveled hand, and from as far away as the balcony I could see that it was no use to him. †Scout† breathed jem. scout, look!Reverend, hes crippled! †(pg186) This quote shows his innocence because Mayella testified that Tom had punched her with his left fist to her right eye, but he clearly couldnt have: because his whole arm was crippled! Tom Robinson said in his testimony, â€Å"She reached up and kissed me on the side of my face. She says she never kissed a grown man before and she might as well kissed a nigger. She says kiss me back nigger. I say miss Mayella lemme outa here and I tried to run but she got her back to the door and Id had to push her. I didnt wanta harm her Mr. Finch and I say lemme pass, but just when I say it Mr.Ewell yonder hollered though the window. † This shows that Tom wanted to leave Ewells house but Mayella did not allow Tom to do so. It also shows that tom had no intention of doing anything sexual nor wrong with Mayella. In addition it exhibits Mayella as a deceitful person. Which should furthermore Tom Robinsons innocence. In the story Tom Robinson explains the events that happened on the day of the supposed rape with the most details he can, and there were no holes in his story that might suggest he is lying, and if he were lying it would make him a really good one.And we all know only the wise can make such lies were there is no flaw in them: and not to be rude but Tom was not all that wise. For he did not have much of an ed ucation. He was a hard working honest family man. All in all Tom Robinson was still found guilty when he was clearly innocent of the accusation of raping Mayella Ewell. Tom Robinsons verdict was a total let down. The verdict was given on the fact that he was an African American being trialed in a court with a prejudice jury. This just shows how deeply flawed the judicial system was.

A Refutation Essay Sample - What Is It?

A Refutation Essay Sample - What Is It?A refutation essay sample is an outline for a personal or formal debate, conducted by either a student or teacher, that aims to argue against the thesis of a presentation and/or argument. The essay is written in an attempt to reach the conclusion, which it intends to prove.Students usually submit a student's essay for evaluation and grading. Grading is often done after a student has finished the required essay. In order to do this, teachers and professors often use a refutation essay sample, as a means of checking whether or not the student is fully aware of his/her task and of how to give the best refutation.Today, a refutation essay is more than just used in school - it's now being used in many modern society, for entertainment purposes. Television shows and movies have made great use of these essays, especially those in which the 'opposing' party is presented in a positive light. These types of situations are also quite common in a classroom, where teachers look for a way to embarrass a student group. This makes it imperative that every student has a reference material that can help him/her understand what refutations are and how they work.A refutation essay is only useful in the hands of a knowledgeable or experienced teacher or professor. If you're the type of student that's just starting out, or that's willing to put in the extra effort in order to win an argument, then it's okay to decide to write your own. Before doing so, however, you should first make sure that you have an idea on how to structure your essay. A good way to do this is to get an idea of the material in question from some resource. To get an idea, take notes of a couple of topics that you think you would like to cover in your own essay. Once you've completed writing your essay, make sure to note down the materials that you used to support it, as well as the main arguments for and against your point of view. After completing your essay, the next step i s to actually send it in. This may be as simple as printing it off onto a computer, scanning it into an electronic form, or printing it off onto a hand-held device. Before the essay is even sent off, however, make sure to check that the papers contain all the necessary information - addresses, telephone numbers, and birthdates. Some schools even allow parents to write their children's essay, which could also make it more interesting. Before sending off your essay, make sure that you are very familiar with the title of the essay, as well as the title of the refutation essay sample. The entire purpose of both papers is to persuade the reader to agree with the arguments and the conclusions of your own essay.

A prose analysis of sonnet xix, Speaks also of Miltons blindness

A prose analysis of sonnet xix, Speaks also of Miltons blindness John Milton, a poet who was completely blind in 1651 wrote 'Sonnet XIX' in 1652; this sonnet is his response to his loss of sight. The theme of the sonnet is the loss and regain of primacy of experience. Milton offers his philosophical view on animism and God. Furthermore, 'Sonnet XIX' explores Milton's faith and relationship with God. 'Sonnet XIX' suggests that man was created to work and not rest. The supportive details, structure, form, and richness of context embodies the theme. The sonnet goes through two phases: the first phase is Milton's question addressed to God, 'Why me?' he asked. Then, the second phase offers a resolution to Milton's dilemma. Moreover, the sonnet acts as a self-poem to Milton, himself. In the beginning of the sonnet, Milton suggests that his primacy of experience have been deferred when he became blind. The words, 'dark', 'death', and 'useless' (lines 2-4) describe the emotional state of Milton. His blindness created a shrouded clarity withi n his mind. Line three, 'And that one talent which is death to hide' is an allusion to the biblical context of the bible. Line three refers to the story of Matthew XXV, 14-30 where a servant of the lord buried his single talent instead of investing it. At the lord's return, he cast the servant into the 'outer darkness' and deprived all he had. Hence, Milton devoted his life in writing; however, his blindness raped his God's gift away. A tremendous cloud casted over him and darkened his reality of life and the world. Like the servant, Milton was flung into the darkness. Line seven, 'Doth God exact day-labor, light denied?' describes the limitations and burdens of a person who has lost his sense of place in life. Obviously, Milton is making a reference to his blindness in...

4 tips for using December to prep for a 2019 job search

4 tips for using December to prep for a 2019 job search It’s one of the busiest months of the year – but not for hiring. Even if hiring managers and recruiters aren’t using up their use-it-or-lose-it vacation time at the end of the year for holiday preparations and travel, they’re likely to be focused on anything but work. This can make December a particularly frustrating time of year to look for a job. But don’t place your search on hold. Instead use this time to revise, revamp and revitalize your resume, LinkedIn profile and social networks. It won’t be easy, given the holiday madness at this time of year, but with a bit of efficient time management, you can use December to get a strong head start on your 2019 job search come January 2.The following tips can help you make the most of the final weeks of the year so you can spring ahead of the competition come the first weeks of your 2019 job search.1. Update your resume and cover letterNow is the perfect time to assess your job search materials. W here are your weaknesses? What could you improve? If it’s been a while since you’ve sent out your resume, consider using a resume builder to make sure you’re applying the optimal structure and design to effectively highlight your strengths as a candidate.Once you have a basic resume structure (and hopefully, your most current role added to the Work Experience section), spend some time evaluating recent job ads for the role you are seeking. Focus on skills they share and common keywords used to describe those skills. Use those keywords to describe your own skills and experience, and then tweak accordingly for each new job you seek.Because most employers use automated applicant tracking systems (ATS) to tally keywords and filter job candidates, using the exact wording in the job ad will help make sure your resume is seen by human eyes. Many ATS count keywords from your cover letter as well as from your resume, thereby increasing your overall keyword count. So, usin g the same list of keywords you’ve compiled for your resume revamp, craft a cover letter that tells a brief story – aim for 200 words total for the body paragraphs – about how you are uniquely positioned to help your next employer achieve their goals.2. Reconnect and NetworkStart making lists of people you know at companies where you might want to work. The holidays are a perfect excuse to send an email or direct message to old colleagues, classmates, and friends. If they have any time over the holidays, try to set up times to reconnect. If not, set up meetings, lunches, and coffee dates for the first few weeks of the New Year. As you’re catching up, ask if their companies are hiring.Focus on expanding your online network for your 2019 job search. Work on adding past coworkers and friends to your social networks, especially LinkedIn. Recent data shows that over 90 percent of recruiters use social media, and especially LinkedIn, to evaluate candidates. Spr uce up your LinkedIn profile with a new picture and new keywords to describe your skills and accomplishments.3. Polish your online presenceIn addition to refocusing your professional web presence, take some time to revamp your social media accounts as well. Of course, it’s fine to have a well-rounded life outside of the office, but you’ll want to make sure your social media accounts don’t contain anything that would cause a potential employer to become wary of hiring you.Over-sharing, angry rants, constant posting, and too many images of social drinking can all send the wrong message to a potential employer. Take some time in the waning weeks of the year to curate your online accounts, pruning where needed, to help present the image you want future employers to have of you.4. Launch your 2019 job searchIn the first few weeks the New Year, contact people who might not have gotten back to you over the holidays. Use the New Year as an excuse to send an email or mak e a phone call: â€Å"Now that the holidays are over I thought I’d get back in touch†¦.†Using the revamped summary from your revised resume, refresh your elevator pitch. Splurge on a new interview outfit item, even if it’s just a new tie or scarf- something that will make you feel confident and full of energy. When hiring managers are back from vacation and ready to make new hires, you’ll be ready, looking your best and primed to talk about how you can help them and their bottom line.Author Bio:LiveCareer assists jobseekers at every step of the journey to employment. Marketing Environment Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

Marketing Environment - Case Study Example (netMBA.com,n.d.) My company Sainsbury is a "UK based food retailer with vested interest in financial services. The company comprises Sainsbury supermarkets, convenience stores,an internet based home delivery shopping service and Sainsbury Bank. The group is headquartered in Holborn, London and it recorded revenues worth pounds 17151 million during the fiscal year 2006-2007, an increase of 6.8% over 2006." (Data monitor plc.,2007) This essentially implies that the factors impacting any one of it's strengths such as it's internet based home delivery shopping facility, changes in demand/supply or organic foods that form the most profitable component. Even factors that impact it's banking service i.e. Sainsbury Bank may impact Sainsbury plc on the whole. There are several internal as well as external factors. The internal factors help the internal analysis part of the equation since they focus to provide a detailed evaluation of the internal analysis part of the equation since they focus to provide a detailed evaluation of the internal environment's strengths/weaknesses. These factors include several such as "company culture, market share, brand awareness, financial resources.." (netMBA,n.d.).These will be internal to the organization; whilst external factors include competitors, in this case ASDA and TESCO that are leading supermarkets in the UK as well. However, the last four mentioned factors are mainly the macro environmental factors and maybe employed in a PEST analysis. PEST stands for political, economic, social and technological factors that have an impact on the economy. In Sainsbury's case these may be sanctions on the import of a certain kind of fertilizer used for growing organic foods that ends up affecting it's organic food sales and hence, it's profitability. Interest rate fluctuations due to an over all economic downturn may lead to lower profits as well. Apart from this, several other macro environmental variables that have an impact include: "pricing regulations. industrial safety regulations, labor costs, inflation rates, interest rates, education, culture, technology's impact on product offerings, like Internet selling etc."(netMBA, n.d.) Three Opportunities The three main opportunities that are basically the outcome of the environmental factors that impact it and that Sainsbury can make use of in the future and convert into it's strengths are the following: Increasing demand for it's organic based products According to the Data monitor, "increasing consumer awareness of health and environmental issues along with an increasing resistance towards genetically modified (gm) food products and GM farming, has led to the rapid increase in the demand for organic food."(Data monitor plc, 2007). According to the UK Telegraph, "Sainsbury's sales have risen once again thanks to the growing popularity of it's organic and premium food ranges. The company which had come under pressure from investors to sell off its property assets is pushing ahead to recovery and it's strong quality food offer has helped it take customers away from rivals such as TESCO and ASDA"(UK Telegraph,2007) This clearly indicates that organic foods have become a Sainsbury trademark with more and more of the supermarket outlets being revamped to include the greens section equipped with quality based organic food supplies. Pfizer Macroeconomics Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Pfizer Macroeconomics - Term Paper Example Unemployment is also another macroeconomic variable that affect the company’s’ supply and demand. When the percentage of the unemployed is high, the market for medicines is low. This is because the unemployed will prefer buying the cheaper and the local medicines that are available in their location. Thus, unemployment leads to low sales in Pfizer pharmaceuticals (Gupta, 2004). Inflation also has affected the supply and demand of Pfizer pharmaceuticals. This happens when the economies of the countries that the firm supplies its products grows and pushes all prices significantly over a particular time above the actual utility value of goods and services. When there is cost-push inflation, the company is forced to pass the cost to the consumers leading to increased prices. The result from the cost-pull inflation is that there is low demand for our products and usually our competitors take advantage of the situation. Also, interest rate is another variable that affect the demand and supply of our medicines. When the interest rate is high in a particular country the demand tend to be low as the cost of obtaining credit is high. This hinders those people who want to start chemists business to not demand our products as they cannot access funds to boost their purchasing ability (Barro, 2007). The chart shows data during a period of five years. When the GDP of France is high it is evident that the unemployment rate is low. Thus, the Pfizer get to make more sales as the demand is high. When the interest rate is high the demand of the product tends to reduce (Marthinsen, 2014). In conclusion, the observation that I make from the movement of microeconomics variables in the Pfizer’s pharmaceuticals is that they affect the supply and demand of the company’s product. A variable like the inflation tend to increase the price of the drugs in the market. This is evident due to an abrupt growth of a country GDP which makes the

Spanish Conquistador Essay -- Christopher Columbus, New World

1492 was the year that Christopher Columbus, the Spanish conquistador, came to the â€Å"New World† and explored it which to be later colonized by Spain, France, and mostly England to establish the soon to be, colonial America. In time, when colonists arrived in the New England region ruled by Britain their lives were being controlled by many factors consisting of religion, wealth, social status, race, conflicts with other colonists/Indians and gender. In the book, Everyday Life in Early America, written by David Freeman Hawke, it is argued that these immigrants were colonists that were forced to adapt to a new way of life. The author, Hawke, believed these colonists living in the New England region or the Chesapeake region could not really survive in this â€Å"New World† with what they learned about their culture in Europe such as customs and traditions back from Europe but had to get used to the new territory and new society or face the hardships that the â€Å"New World† had to offer. Overall, the book shows who came and how they settled, farming and housing, health and manners, and morals and witchcraft, and even difference in race and conflicts with Indians. As colonial America started to settle in, towns and counties were developing and causing conflict. The early colonial American settlers that â€Å"the bulk of the emigrants came voluntarily, and more often than not they were the most â€Å"vivid people† of England, those with energy and courage to make a new start in life† (Hawke, 1). To Hawke’s point that the early colonist faced hardships, was when they encountered the Native Americans. This was one of the reasons why colonial Americans were encountering new ways of life, that what they were taught and knew about Europe had to be disregard... .... The historical events of the everyday life of the settlers are very true no matter about what topic he talks about. His accuracy then compared to present could have been lowered as the book was written 23 years ago, so anything new could have been discovered about the colonists. This book is easily one of the most informative book on United States history as it not dull but fascinates. One can easily learn the hardships of the early settlers on their way to the â€Å"New World† and see what they faced there when they arrived. One can show great enjoyment for this book as at least one part/topic must interest one as it goes from a wide variety of interesting topics such as recreation, war, housing, settlement, and crime. Taken as a whole, the book can be read by many no matter how busy one is, as this could possibly be the most interesting non-fiction book out there.
